Puzzle Piece Art - We Are All Pieces of God's Puzzle

Image
By Owen and Zack We decided to write a blog post on our puzzle piece art because we thought you would like to learn about it or learn how to do it yourselves and we thought that the teachers out there would like to do it with their class! First we made lots of designs in pencils and our name in pencil. We made our name in a cool colour. We went over the lines in black marker. Then we cut them out. Click below to see the pictures of the puzzle pieces. Then we put the up on wall. Do you you like our art?  Do you have any suggestions for any other art projects for us?

Snowball Fight in September?!

Image
Last Friday, students were given three pieces of paper with numbers on them and were told to crumple them up - many could not believe that their teacher was telling them to crumple a piece of paper in class! When students were told next that they were going to use these pieces of paper as snowballs for their snowball fight, jaws dropped. After a couple safety rules were put in place, the fun began! However, there was a method to my madness. After a whirlwind of snowballs, students were asked to find three snowballs in the class and bring them to the carpet.  Next, students were asked to un-crumple their snowballs and reveal the number on them. Students noticed that one number in their 3-4 digits numbers, was underlined. The job of each student was to go around the carpet and share the number on one of their snowballs and determine what the number would be rounded to depending on what place value was underlined (nearest ten, hundred, or thousand).  Student...

Our First Day-Designing our Learning Space Togther

Image
Our first day! We excitedly came into the classroom to find... all the chairs and tables up against the wall!  We thought it was strange at first, then we found out that we would get to help design what our learning space was going to look like this year! We got busy thinking about what we needed and what we liked in a learning area! After designing with our groups, we shared our learning with the whole class.  Some common ideas were sitting in groups, having lots of space, sitting with friends sometimes and sitting with other people sometimes, flexible seating and keeping the classroom a cooler temperature.  Here are our possible classroom layouts: Here is what we decided on for now.  We will work like this, with flexible seating, for a while and then make adjustments when we feel like we need to. Do you have any feedback or any good ideas how we might add to or change our learning space?  Let us know in the comments below.
