Image
Norris Bud Chadwick   by: Jake Gu and Colton                     Norris Bud Chadwick fought  in WW2 in the 1940s. Mrs.J brought in a box and we all did not know what was in the box later on Mrs.J opened up the box.        And it was a uniform and medals also a hat and Mrs.J passed it around. And she had a note that her grandfather made and it said he got hit by a bomb and she started to cry we all felt really bad for her because it was her grandfather. He survived the bomb and he lived through the war. Some students tried on the coat and they said it was comfy. Some kids got their pictures when they put on the out fit.              ...

Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Image
Fruit of  the holy spirit By Dalia and Gigi The fruits of the holy spirit are, self-control, kindness, faithfulness, joy, patience, love, generosity, peace, modesty, and gentleness. We are learning about the fruits of the spirit  to understand how to  be nice to others. \ Galatians 5:22-23 22  But the fruit  of the Spirit is love,  joy, peace,  forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,   23  gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law. We know that there are 10 fruit of the holy spirit. All of them mean something. Self-control means to be abilty to control your body without someone's help. Kindness means to treat others how you want to be treated. Faithfulness means to be full of trust. Joy means gladness that is not based on circumstances. Patience means slow to speak and slow to anger. Love means to seek the highest good of others. Generosity means the quality of bei...

Getting a Class Letter

Image
My Uncle’s L etter   By Cam and Evan On the Monday the 13th Mrs. Johnson said that I (Cam) got a letter from the mail. She gave me the letter and she said, ¨I was dying to open it!¨ At first I thought it was a joke . Many students have been getting letters to our classroom because we were writing letters to family members who were special people in our family. It was a package, in a package, with a letter and a bunch of pencils . I read the letter and it was talking about Halloween because it was sent before Halloween. He asked me about what I was being for Halloween.   But after I read the letter I found out it was from my uncle. I really liked the letter. We handed out the pencils to our class. The kids liked it because many of their old pencils were small. Do you like getting letters? White Squirrel pencils from the University of Kentuky

Open Inquiry Share Fair

Image
BY : Sean and Landen             This year we made a project on something we were interested in. First step to do our share fair was to figure out what we were interested in. Everyone in our class wrote down 10 things we wanted to learn about and picked one out of the ten that we wrote down. Once we found out out what we wanted to research on we put all of our information into our thinking and learning journal. One day we all sat in a circle and said all topics and everyone asked each other questions about our projects.   Then after we got all the information we put it on to a  big piece of paper and wrote it on our project and dr...

TAIZE PRAYER

Image
By Jaxon and Adrian and Mrs J All the kids in the school walked to the church. And then Christine and Leanne  introduced Al and Anne Marie  who were going to sing for us. The service began with singing. Al McChesney and Anne Marie Gillis Our Sacred Heart School Community Leanne talked about what Taize was about.  And then, she told us that there is a village called Taize and tons of people would gather together and since they all didn’t say the same language, they all sung a song so that they could sing short songs and you could hum if you didn’t know the words. The students were very quiet. Some kids felt really calm, some felt like they were in heaven.  Here are some things that were said from our grade four classroom. "It felt like heaven." "It felt like I was with Jesus and God." "I felt really peaceful." "I felt really light." "It felt really calming and like I was speaking to God." ...

Basket Draw for School Yard Improvements

Image
By Fallon M and Gemma M Each year our school does a basket draw to raise money.  Each class picks a theme and makes a basket filled with items that students can buy tickets to win. How Did we decide? So first we decided by doing a vote. The choices were playground equipment, books, art supplies, balls and GIFT CARDS! So then  to decide everyone got a sticker and sticked it on what kind of choice they wanted and most of the people picked GIFT CARDS! That's how we decided. What type of Gift Cards did we get? So the types of gift cards we had were Mcdonald's  Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Marshalls, Winners, Booster Juice the mall and more...   What is The Money Is Raised For? So our principal decided to  use the money for play equipment  and he is going to get a sandbox for the younger kids.

Puzzle Piece Art - We Are All Pieces of God's Puzzle

Image
By Owen and Zack We decided to write a blog post on our puzzle piece art because we thought you would like to learn about it or learn how to do it yourselves and we thought that the teachers out there would like to do it with their class! First we made lots of designs in pencils and our name in pencil. We made our name in a cool colour. We went over the lines in black marker. Then we cut them out. Click below to see the pictures of the puzzle pieces. Then we put the up on wall. Do you you like our art?  Do you have any suggestions for any other art projects for us?

Snowball Fight in September?!

Image
Last Friday, students were given three pieces of paper with numbers on them and were told to crumple them up - many could not believe that their teacher was telling them to crumple a piece of paper in class! When students were told next that they were going to use these pieces of paper as snowballs for their snowball fight, jaws dropped. After a couple safety rules were put in place, the fun began! However, there was a method to my madness. After a whirlwind of snowballs, students were asked to find three snowballs in the class and bring them to the carpet.  Next, students were asked to un-crumple their snowballs and reveal the number on them. Students noticed that one number in their 3-4 digits numbers, was underlined. The job of each student was to go around the carpet and share the number on one of their snowballs and determine what the number would be rounded to depending on what place value was underlined (nearest ten, hundred, or thousand).  Student...

Our First Day-Designing our Learning Space Togther

Image
Our first day! We excitedly came into the classroom to find... all the chairs and tables up against the wall!  We thought it was strange at first, then we found out that we would get to help design what our learning space was going to look like this year! We got busy thinking about what we needed and what we liked in a learning area! After designing with our groups, we shared our learning with the whole class.  Some common ideas were sitting in groups, having lots of space, sitting with friends sometimes and sitting with other people sometimes, flexible seating and keeping the classroom a cooler temperature.  Here are our possible classroom layouts: Here is what we decided on for now.  We will work like this, with flexible seating, for a while and then make adjustments when we feel like we need to. Do you have any feedback or any good ideas how we might add to or change our learning space?  Let us know in the comments below.
